Sunday 2 November (Yakushima island)

Priority task for many, after a substantial buffet breakfast, was bike cleaning and/or repairs.

Many riders had underestimated how much extra wear descending on the mountain routes (i.e. feathering their brakes to control their speed) would diminish the life of their brake pads.
My brake pads are still good, though I have adjusted them a few times to keep them effective. NB I do have spares.
I gave my bike a good clean, especially the chain (washed and lubricated). I also used some silicon spray I’d picked up a the Daiso store to see if I could prevent the clicking.ticking sound from reoccurring.

Middle of the day was spent catching up on blog posts
Then a wander through the manicured grounds of the hotel on the way to the nearby convenience store to purchase some lunch. It was about 2km to the store, ~1.5km of which was the hotel driveway!

Another leisurely dinner in the evening. I sat with Wendy, Justin, Soren, Amanda, Boaz, Nina, and Dan. Wendy and Justin had gone out of their way to gather up those of us arriving by ourselves.
This time I had chosen the Japanese menu. The slow pace of dinner (each course delivered well spaced timing) not only fosters good conversation but gives stomach time to feel full despite the size of the courses being on the small size (quality over quantity).
Finished the evening reading a few chapters of the latest Louise Penny novel (The Black Wolf).

Have you tried spraying the silicon on your hip to stop the clicking?
Well that’s the next step in the process of eliminating the possible sources. 😀
The scenery is quite beautiful Steve
